Somatic Therapy

What is Somatic Therapy, and how can it help?

Somatic psychology focuses on the deep connection between mind and body. It is a clinical therapy that helps clients to become aware of trauma and stress stored in the body, and uses that awareness to help clients process and release what has been trapped in the nervous system. For example, anxiety can be thought of as a sympathetic fight or flight response. Depression can be thought of as a parasympathetic freeze response. Somatic therapy is a holistic treatment that allows clients to use not only thought awareness, but physical awareness, breathwork, and bodywork to help relieve trauma. Clients are not only able to talk through their thoughts, but they are able to feel through them while receiving safe support. Somatic Therapy is a gentle approach and effective approach.
