Individual Therapy

What are Individual Sessions at Wildflower like?

During sessions, the therapist will use a combination of Somatic Therapy and various Cognitive Therapies. Somatic Therapy can include a combination of talking through experiences, guided imagery, breathwork, body awareness, as well as safe and gentle touch in order to explore overwhelm in very manageable doses. The therapist will “pendulate” back and forth between feelings of emotional discomfort and feelings of calm/safely. This is often like moving back and forth between feelings in the body and thoughts in the mind. The therapist increases exposure slowly to concerns slowly using a method called “titration,” as your nervous system learns that it is safe to explore these thoughts. Clients may notice a gentle chain reaction called “sequencing,” as tension and emotions move and change, processing all the way out of the system until the sequence completes. This allows the brain to recognize that despite difficult memories and ongoing stress, it is safe to relax. At the conclusion of sessions, clients typically feel a sense of relaxation, closure and connection to personal resources and solutions.
